A display of chops is cool and everything, but I've never heard him lay down a groove that made me feel anything. I think that would be just as "inspirational"...

...also- thanks for sharing. It's cool to bring up different drummers for discussion/introduction like this...

Dom does have quite a bit of knowledge.
He is also articulate and funny. I think
this is what affords him his stature.

I think it is in his best interest to move
in the direction of drums, as part of a
    musical presentation, though. Only that
really defines a drummer in the final
    analysis. It's clear.

His moving from the right-hand to left-
hand lead took courage, 'at our age'. LOL
I have to applaud him for that.

On the theatrics, I am not for them, un-
less I see everything else in its place.
The music has got to be there. That's
what he needs and maybe he will deliver
in the future, to everyone's surprise.

Jim Chapin likes him. He even wrote a strange song about him, which Jim sings on and (obviously) plays the drums on.

here the link from his website:

    DrummerDav!!!

That is too funny!! I think Bill Murry would be jealous listening to this tune. Because it would be perfect for a seedy Niagra Falls Inn, Piano Bar, I'm 70 years old and wearing a blue tux jacket with plad pants gig!!!

Poor guy.... I kinda feel sorry for him the way everyone is beating up on him. But it is kinda funny the theatrics he does!! And I never understood the million mile an hour Dbl Pedal thing?? What are these players trying to prove?? That like AC voltage, if the frequency is fast enough, it sounds like one steady note??

A funny bunch us drummer are eh??

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">you're right, WecklsMechanic: it does seem straight out of a movie with bill murray or will ferrell.

thing is, i really like jim chapin (i.e., i want him to be my grandpa and show me some technique while i sit on his lap), but that song was too much for me. sorry.
